Scam messages on Yaga are phishing attempts sent via Yaga chat — this guide explains the warning signs, how to confirm a real order, and how to report suspicious users.
Yaga works hard to offer a safe platform for buying and selling, but it's always best to be extra cautious when sharing personal details or clicking suspicious links. There is no need for additional transactions when buying or selling on Yaga, and no need to share any personal details with other users via Yaga chat. Do not copy or enter suspicious links into your browser, and never add your personal details — especially your bank card details — to suspicious web pages or Yaga chat.
How to confirm a real order
When someone makes a purchase from your Yaga shop, or you make a purchase as a Buyer, you will receive all three of the following:
- An in-app notification (the bell icon next to the envelope icon)
- An email order confirmation from a @yaga.co.za email address
- A transaction in your Yaga wallet
To check your wallet:
- Open the bottom navigation bar
- Tap My Yaga
- Tap My wallet
If these three conditions have not been met, then you have not received a new order. Be very cautious if someone claims to have made a purchase from your Yaga shop.
As a Buyer, there is no need to share your personal details via Yaga chat. Only tap Item received once you've actually received the item and confirmed that you're happy with it.
Signs of a phishing message
You've most likely received a phishing message via Yaga chat if the user is doing one of these things:
- Asking you to scan a QR code
- Asking you to do the transaction outside of Yaga
- Claiming to be from Yaga support (Yaga support operates only via email)
- Asking you to verify something (for example, your account)
- Asking you to click or copy a link via Yaga chat and enter it into your web browser (do not copy or enter suspicious links into your browser)
- Asking you to cover additional shipping costs via bank transfer
- Asking you to share or enter your personal details (do not share your personal details via Yaga chat or any other suspicious page)
- Reaching out to you via WhatsApp or other messengers (Yaga support operates only via email, never via WhatsApp or any other messaging platform)
