How well you pack your item directly affects whether it arrives in the condition the Buyer expects — poor packaging can lead to damage in transit and a return.
General packing principles
- Use sturdy outer packaging that fits the item snugly — a cardboard box, padded envelope, or carrier-provided packaging.
- Don't use unpadded plastic bags for anything other than soft, non-fragile items like clothing.
- Fill empty space inside the package with bubble wrap, paper, or foam so the item can't move around in transit.
- Seal the package with strong tape on all openings.
- Place the shipping label flat on the largest side of the package and tape the edges (remove any old labels).
Packing by item type
- Clothing & shoes — padded bag or cardboard box (avoid unpadded bags).
- Toys, cosmetics, fragile items — cardboard box with bubble wrap or foam padding, each fragile item wrapped separately.
- Electronics — sturdy cardboard box with protective inserts (never ship loose).
- Bundles — all items in one package, each securely wrapped (make sure nothing rattles when shaken).
- Books — padded envelope or small box; add card stiffeners to avoid corner damage.
Choosing the right package size
- Measure your item at its longest, widest, and tallest points.
- Use packaging close to that size — too big means the item rattles around, too small means it gets squashed.
- Double-check that the package fits within the courier's size and weight limits for the shipping option you've chosen.
